Tropical Storm Ernesto got its name on Monday afternoon as it gained strength in the Atlantic, threatening Caribbean communities with wind, rain and storm surge.
The National Hurricane Center said the storm was sustaining 40mph winds. Tropical storm warnings were in effect Monday for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Officials also warned of potential flash flooding, storm surge, power and communication outages.
The tropical disturbance is expected to become a hurricane and move north toward Bermuda. It is not expected to threaten the mainland of the U.S. in the next five days.
