'A Canadian in Mayfair', the tribute to Robert Farnon (1917-2005), written by his friend Walter Stott (1924-2009) is from 1950, the year the infamous musicians' strike began in the UK, which was to interrupt the activities of mood music libraries for nine years.
They were forced to record on the continent of Europe using local orchestras and the Chappell Recorded Music Library largely employed the Danish State Radio Orchestra, sending Robert Farnon to Copenhagen to supervise the recording sessions.
To disguise this activity several aliases were used including Ole Jensen and David King and the performances were credited to 'The Melodi Light Orchestra'.
This recording of 'A Canadian In Mayfair' was released right at the beginning of the dispute and the name Queen's Hall Light Orchestra was still on the label, although conductor Robert Farnon became David King.
There have been several recordings of this piece.
Sidney Torch released one with his orchestra in 1953 on Parlophone and the John Wilson Orchestra included it on their 2003 Vocalion CD 'The Film & Television Music Of Angela Morley'.
However, this is the original 1950 version from the Chappell library played by the Queen's Hall Light Orchestra. (C.393).
