Ethics have been divided into consequentialism and deontology for years until Anscombe's essay changed the landscape of the modern debate. Contrary to what most modern philosophers (and virtue ethicists themselves believe), Christianity didn't "destroy" virtue ethics and replace it with deontology, Orthodox Christianity itself takes a unique virtue ethicist approach to morality.
