This is a series of videos where I fight Nemesis on almost every occasion, setting up as conditions manual reloading during battle, always staying on ECG fine and using a different arsenal of weapons (or ammunition). For this confrontation, I used the Hk-P Grenade Launcher (Flame & Burst Rounds). I'll be documenting my experience recording the video. Think of it as a making-of bonus description.
This is the battle. In a normal playthrough, this is the only fight against Nemesis that cannot be skipped before he mutates. I love the atmosphere of this sequence. If there's one particular set of events that embodies the inspiration of Nemesis' design, that is T-800 from the first Terminator movie, it's this. This almost feels like a recreation of a scene from that movie - in Resident Evil style of course! Here's Carlos fighting with all that he's got to protect Jill, blowing him up and tearing his flesh apart only for Nemesis to persist in his mission to kill Jill Valentine and be eventually defeated by walking towards the fire and suffering a mutation, completely changing his looks. Reminds you of something? To me, it did.
That aside, I consider this battle to be significantly easier than the alternative. It must also be the first time that the game gives the edge to the player if he decides to use the grenade launcher since Nemesis doesn't dodge the rounds and is slow enough attacking, allowing to evade his tentacle, position properly and fire that grenade round without much trouble. That is not to say that Nemesis is a piece of cake - that running animation of his after being shot at can still be a problem if the distance gap is too short or long. Still the frequency of his running rampage can be controlled to a certain extend so it's not as difficult as previous battle.
This came out exactly as I wanted it to. It was a shame that I got grabbed after dodging twice but that's the dodge mechanism for you. Spacing is always important abut there was nothing I could have done. If Jill had ducked instead of back stepping, she would have successfully dodged that grab. There's no way to control the dodge animation and I suffered the one and only hit of this battle.
