Building green means being more efficient in the use of valuable resources, such as energy, water, building materials and land than a conventional building. A green building depletes natural resources to a minimum during its construction and operational phase. The aim of a green building design is to optimize the demand on non-renewable resources, maximize the utilization efficiency of these resources when in use, and maximize the reuse, recycling and enhance utilization of renewable resources.
GRIHA is a guiding and performance oriented rating system where points are earned for meeting the design and performance intent of the criteria. While the intent of some of the criteria is self-validating in nature, there are others such as energy consumption, thermal and visual comfort, noise control, and indoor pollution levels which need to be validated on-site through performance monitoring.
