"This temple has a history of 200 years. It is made of marble and sandalwood. Workers from Jodhpur built it. They were famous worldwide for their craft. Its architecture is like that of Taj Mahal and Badshahi Masjid."

"We have around 10 million Hindus in the Sindh province. But the official count is different, some say 5.5 million to 6 million, because after the partition, most of the Hindu population left Pakistan. But those who are still living here are happy and satisfied in Pakistan."

"Shikarpur had a sizeable Hindu community. It (the Hindu community) did a lot of charitable work here. It built C&S College, Gangabai Hospital, Rai Bahadur Hospital. (Before the partition) we had 537 temples here."

"A lot of people migrated from here. The atmosphere was such that many Hindus decided to leave. (The temple buildings) were taken over by Evacuee Trust. It was then the government's business to handle them. There are now 27 temples here."

LEADIN:
In Pakistan, academics say there's been a surge in discrimination and marginalisation of Hindus because of rising extremism and fundamentalism in the country.
There is no ban on Hindu worship in Pakistan, but Hindus say openly practicing the faith is not a matter of routine.
One temple attracts tens of thousands of Hindus from within Muslim-majority Pakistan every year for festivals and rituals.
STORYLINE:
On these brightly coloured boats, Hindus are ferried to a peaceful island that has housed a temple for almost 200 years.
It's located on the Indus river, which flows top to toe through Pakistan and into its southern Sindh province.
