Taking advantage of a nice sunny day in February 2012 we walk around parts of Dunster Beach and Watchet.
Before we moved to the area, I used to think Dunster Beach was a joke name for a place that didnt exist. Something like Wigan Pier. Both Wigan and Dunster were known to be nowhere near the sea! But in fact Dunster Beach can be a beautiful place in fine weather. it is not really part of Dunster just as is the case for the so called Marsh Street area of Dunster. It is a self contained setlement of over two hundred wooden chalets set right on the coast by a beach, a wood and a lake. The beach varies from shingle to fine quailty sand. When we first discovered it, we took out an annual parking pass as we went there so often, mostly in the summertime. It is the only area locally where you can drive and leave your car right on the grass beside the sea. There are walks in and around the lake and wood, Also all the way along the coast to Minehead in one direction and Blue Anchor and Watchet in the other.
At Watchet we see something of where the old Mineral Line Railway used to terminate close to the harbour.
