Today on this 2012 Kia Optima, we're going to install part number 118453 from Tow Ready. First thing we need to do is open up the trunk and then we'll remove the floor liner, and then we'll go ahead and remove the threshold. There will be three fasteners on each side that we have to remove. Once the fasteners are removed, we can go ahead and pull up gently from the bottom and it pops right out. All right, now we'll go ahead and remove the liner on each side of the vehicle. There will be two fasteners that we need to remove as well and then we can go ahead and pull back the liner, and then we can see our connection point for our T1 connector.
We'll go ahead and push the tab down for a lock and then we can go ahead and pull our connector apart. We'll stop there on the passenger's side and repeat the same process over on the driver's side. With everything loosened up in the driver's side, we'll go ahead and start installing the T1 connector. Plug it into the factory wire harness. We'll take the T connector with the yellow wire and plug it into the tail light.
Since there wasnt a factory ground available, we'll go ahead and take the white wire with the ring terminal and attach to the sheet metal on the inside. They would be underneath the threshold. Okay, now we'll go ahead and run our T connector with the red and green wire over to the passenger's side and then we'll go ahead and install it into the connectors there. Okay, we'll take a moment to attach to the converter box to some sheet metal on the inside. We'll clean off the spot and we'll use an adhesive to hold it in place.
Now, we'll go ahead and secure our wire to some zip ties and then reinstall the interior panels. Okay, with everything reassembled, we'll take our tester to connect the ground to the exposed and then we'll go ahead and check your brown wire for running lights, then we'll go ahead and check the yellow for left turn signal and then green for right turn signal. For the brake signal, we'll go ahead and make sure we have a constant signal on the yellow and green. Okay, it looks like everything works. That will finish it for our install of part number 118453 from Tow Ready on our 2012 Kia Optima..
