The 2017 IET SA/NT PATW presentations given by each of the young professionals were well prepared and entertaining. A summary synopsis of each presentation is provided with a relatively low-quality video of the presentation.
The title of Kiran's presentation was "Enhancing the power conversion efficiency of organic solar cells with quantum dots". A low cost, highly efficient and stable quantum dot organic solar cell structure is simulated in this project. The power conversion efficiency improvement has been made possible by selecting suitable organic materials for donor and acceptor layers. This is followed by incorporating Copper-Zinc-Tin-Sulphide (CZTS) quantum dots as a second donor material to further improve the absorption and efficiency. Zinc Oxide nanowires (ZnO-NW) are coated to improve stability by blocking UV rays from entering the cells. In addition, the coating of ZnO-NW serves as an anti-reflection coating and boosts solar energy absorption by improving time of efficient exposure per day.
