I’ve always heard about Challah in a Bag. My kids loving helping to make challah, but I’m not always patient enough to have them help. I also usually make our dough in my bread machine. We had the start of school delayed by two hours because of super cold weather, so it was the perfect time to give it a try.
Recipe I used:

Alterations I made:
- Used Bread Machine Yeast (Rapid Rise Yeast)
- 4 tbs. sugar instead of 6
- Omitted orange zest and cardamom
- Used 1 egg for egg wash, not 1 egg + 1 yolk
- Second rise 25 mins
- Bake 35 mins
In the future, I’d try it with bread flour. I think that would help the elasticity of the dough.
