NONVIOLENCE AS A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
The teachings of Ahimsa are ancient teaching brought to the world’s attention by Mahatma Gandhi.
As part of his nonviolent non-cooperation campaign for home rule, Gandhi stressed the importance of economic independence for India. He applied nonviolent resistance by advocating the manufacture of khaddar. This is homespun cloth. Doing this put economic stress on the British Mills by replacing imported textiles from Britain. It is a good example of nonviolence and non-cooperation working effectively.
In this video, Craig explains how nonviolence is a spiritual practice that applies to things such as vegetarianism and meditation. Nonviolence is an active force that is used in one’s life as a force for good. Nonviolence applied to human life can bring inner peace.
Ahimsa is respect for all living things and avoidance of violence towards others.
