Zoom H8 sits in a weird space between portable recorder and music recording tool. Its music app is not that good for overdubbing music however. This works great in field recording mode though, as you get lots of options for inputting sound into the device.

In the video I mentioned I had trouble connecting this to the iPhone but the issue is you can't use iOS mode without the Bluetooth adapter. It DOES work out of the box in stereo Mac/PC mode though like any other interface.

For 32 bit float another good option I forgot to mention is the Tascam Portacapture X8.

And something else to consider is that the Zoom H8 does offer the option of different capsules, including one for ambisonics.
