"Exclusive! Special Release! The First Newsreel Subject Ever Presented in Color (sic)" Prepared and Produced by Warner Pathe News in Cinecolor.
The Pasadena Tournament of Roses. Parade through the streets. Crowds watch. Men on horseback carry the American flag. Grand Marshal General Omar Bradley and Mrs Bradley in an open topped car. Crowd waves. Queen of the Tournament Victoria Goodhew waves from her rose decorated float. Train made of roses. Donald Duck. Leo Corelio (sp?) rides on horseback and throws petals in the air. Bevy of sun kissed bathing beauties in bikinis wave from a float (wolf whistle on soundtrack.) Marching majorettes. Flower dinosaur. Jet propelled skystream (?) - aircraft made from flowers. A stupendous float depicting swathes of motion picture film advertising "Our Golden West" and "Cinecolor" itself. The "nugget express" old fashioned train. San Francisco cable car. More waving girls. Parade ushers in a new year: "hopeful of peace and prosperity".
Rose Bowl, American footballers run on to pitch. Shots of the match with players named including Elliot, Murphey Chappius and Weisenberger (sps?) . This cataloguer not sure which teams are playing - sorry! Michigan and a Southern Californian team - "Wolverines" and "Trojans"? The crowd lift coloured boards to make the pattern of an American flag and later a face with the name "Fritz" underneath. The score is 49-0. Pathe cockerel at the end is a very lurid red!
Note: two prints of this film are spliced together. Very nice colour quality and lots of lovely shots of gorgeous flower covered floats and gorgeous women!
Check copyright - presumably this is American Pathe.
