This GOES-16 (GOES East) one-minute visible imagery from August 30, 2019, shows an eye starting to form in Hurricane Dorian. The formation of an eye is almost always an indicator of increasing tropical cyclone organization and strength.
As of 11 a.m. EDT, Hurricane Dorian is centered about 660 miles east of West Palm Beach, Florida. Maximum sustained winds are near 110 mph (175 km/h) with higher gusts. Dorian is expected to become a major hurricane later today, and it will remain an extremely dangerous major hurricane while it moves near the northwestern Bahamas and approaches the Florida peninsula into early next week.
