Once a Business Family - Always a Business Family
Robin Kovitz -- Jet Star Capital
Reflecting on the sale of their 3rd Generation "Original Family Business", Robin looks at the lessons learned from the experience as a family; how her time spent working outside the family firm has added depth to their team and brought the business family closer. Robin looks to the future. The hopes of the Kovitz family to build upon success through long term investment, and their promise to bring understanding and skills to the table in order to help another family business in their transition.
Jet Star is owned by the Kovitz family, who sold their food manufacturing and distribution company after having built the business over 35 years to approximately $300 million in sales. Jet Star is an entrepreneurial private investment company, created for the purpose of identifying and acquiring a single, profitable, Toronto-based business.
Over the past several years, Robin has worked in private equity, where she has been responsible for sourcing, evaluating, structuring and executing the buyouts of mid-sized companies, attracting and retaining management, setting corporate strategies and assisting with selected operating initiatives. She has also worked as a summer management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group, on the division and sale of her family's businesses, New Food Classics and Centennial Foodservice, and in Mergers & Acquisitions at CIBC World Markets, where she was involved with a number of investment banking mandates in a variety of industries. In 2005, Robin received the Chairman's Award for outstanding contribution to CIBC.
Robin currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the Harvard Business School Club of Toronto and; the Ontario Chapter of the Young Presidents' Organization.
