Within the EU the use of beryllium oxide has been banned since 2006 (EU directive 1907/2006). I didn’t know better at the time I shot this video. So do as I say, not as I did.
I got the idea in my head that I wanted to build a spot welder. So I looked on eBay for a cheap microwave oven transformer (MOT), but had no luck. And then one day walking home I came by an old microwave somebody had thrown out.
Of course I took it home with me to take it to pieces. But I didn’t stop at the parts level. The timer was disassembled down to the last cogwheel, the magnetron was sawn open … WARNING: Overlong video – use the time index!
