Learn about TikTok's latest privacy update that changed age requirements and limitations across the app in this quick and easy guide.
TikTok just released a new update in January 2021 that changed how it limits accounts for users under the age of 18. In this video, I walk you through all of the new changes and what they mean for you.
To summarize, if you're 18 or older, nothing changes for you. If you're 16 or 17 then a lot of settings are set to only me or turned off by default but you have the ability to change them to everyone and adjust the settings. If you're 13, 14, or 15 you will find that your account has been set to private and can't be changed to public until you're 16. You also can't message anyone and you have things like duet and stitch turned off by default.
These new age-related privacy restrictions are largely a result of an FTC fine of millions of dollars over TikTok's gathering of children's personal information from users under 13 years old.
