With so many tragic events taking place around the globe & the spirit of division & competition being prevalent more often than a little bit in the Gospel arena, it’s refreshing to see this group of Christian Rappers join together, repping JESUS CHRIST in a major way.
“Nothing Like Them” - Remix, which is available on all major digital outlets, is spearheaded by Christian Rapper, Surve - featuring Bryann Trejo, Von Won, Antwoine Hill, Driven & Y.A. Yahboy. The collaboration came about after Surve was approached by a friend who encouraged him to do a remix due to the overwhelming response he received from the original version. Surve who is also the Founder & C.E.O. of the Jesus Sneakers (Yahshua Kiks & Apparel) as well as the 1st Christian Rapper to be featured in Rolling Stone - has become a very influential voice in the Christian Hip Hop world.
From living a troubled life, filled with hatred & the stigma attached to being a ‘Homeless Reject’ roaming the streets, sleeping in abandoned homes & cars, Surve understands the importance of rising up out of dysfunction & walking in love & unity. In fact, it was the spirit of love & unity that lit a flame within him, compelling him to reach out to Antwoine with #KMF for a feature on this particular song. “While Antwoine was working on the song, Bryann sent word that he wanted to be apart of the project as well. I still felt the need for more unity, so I reached out to Von Won, Y. A. YahBoy & Driven” Surve explained in a recent interview. “My main focus is to create more unity amongst the Body of Christ & eliminate as much hate & division as possible.”
When interviewing On Air Radio personality, Marcus Sullivan, aka #Memphis who is the Host of the hottest Christian Hip Hop Show in the country right now - “Marcus In The Morning” on 91.7 FM NGEN radio, Marcus stated “One of the biggest problems I see in the gospel arena is the inability to translate one’s music so that it pierces hearts and jams at the same time. Lots of times, it’s too over the head of the ‘unchurched’ so they don’t get it or it’s too secular and the ‘church folks’ turn their noses up.” From the looks of it, “Nothing Like Them” - Remix is touching the hearts of various listeners from different walks of life, while allowing them to jam & really get their praise on as well!
To top it all off, these guys were able to come together for the “Break The Silence” - No Bullying - No Suicide Concert that took place on Jan. 25th in Baytown, Tx. It was at that concert that the music video was shot, allowing supporters & fellow believers to be apart of the production as well. The much anticipated visual is expected to be released later on this month. “I love seeing collaborations”, said Marcus, who also produced the Yolanda Adams morning show on Praise 92.1 years ago, “When Country Christian artists collaborate with Gospel artists or a Gospel Giant & a major Christian Hip Hop Artist collab, it’s a beautiful thing. Collaborations are impactful. We need more of them in The Body of Christ.” Praise God that these men are uniting & boldly campaigning for Christ with an unwavering desire to reach the lost. The Spirit of The Lord is clearly present in their lives & evident in their walk. They are showing up & making powerful moves by allowing God’s love to be displayed in powerful ways.
