I lived with a Rectocele for 9 years. For those that don't know, a Rectocele is a type of pelvic organ prolapse when the rectum bulges into the posterior wall of the vagina.

Symptoms would be worse later in the day especially if I did not have a successful first or second bowel movement.

Even if I had a successful poop I still always felt like there was something in my vagina.

I felt heavy...in my pelvis and mentally. It was exhausting to be thinking about it ALL THE TIME.

I sometimes had difficulty inserting a tampon and sometimes I had tampons turn upside down and come out.

I avoided movement later in the day so always exercised in the morning and never committed to afternoon/evening workouts.

I restricted my eating to replicate a good bowel movement day.

I often avoided sex and intimacy and sometimes social outings...all depended on the day.

I tried everything to fix it. I had reversed a stage 2 bladder prolapse but nothing I did made a dent in the Rectocele. Diet did a bit...after I learned I had an autoimmune condition ...I was asymptomatic for quite awhile.

My daily routine has not changed much since having surgery except that I have more freedom...freedom of movement...freedom of time of day...freedom for sex.

I still need to be very diligent with water and fibre to ensure I don't get constipated.

I no longer feel like something is in there...I don't feel heavy ...and I feel grateful for a positive outcome. I was very intentional with my pre-op and post-op care and return to fitness.

I did a poll on my story and of people who had responded that they have a prolapse, 67% have a Rectocele. It is very common and one of the more difficult to improve.
