When the new Emmet and Benny's 'Build and Fix Workshop (set 70821) came out a couple of weeks ago, I immediately bought a copy, along with Benny's Space Squad because, spaceship! Spacship! SPACESHIP!
In a previous video, I showed you my reMOC of 918 One Man Spaceship, the smallest ship from the old Classic Space theme. Since then, I have been thinking about doing the same for 924, Space Transporter.
So I used Benny's ship from 70821 as the starting point for my new MOC, and worked up from there. I felt the original nose was far too sawn-off although I liked the side fins, rear opening doors, and ramp with aaccess for the buggy at the back.
My first task was to lengthen the front with some wedge plates from my collection. I added a few sensors on the top for detail.
I also felt that the rear section with the buggy needed to be enclosed. So I found the large trans yellow cockpit canopy from my parts collection and added it above the existing window slope, making sure that the crew would still be covered if they were sitting in the buggy at the back.
The rear fins now act as a support bridge for the bar across the top of the canopy, which finishes it off nicely as well as giving a nod towards the similar structure at the back of the original 1979 model. The rear thrusters still swing out to reveal the cargo bay.
The rest of Benny's Space Squad have come to admire the new ship, and they can't wait to hitch a ride, although the are a little bit scared of Benny's driving!
