Global world trade is cyclical and never stops. Hence, our Vessel Traffic Officers play an extremely important role in the Port of Singapore!
#Didyouknow ?
- Singapore has one of the world’s busiest sea-lanes and at any one time, there are approximately 1,000 ships in the Port of Singapore
- The Vessel Traffic Management team in MPA works round the clock, 24/7 each day because world trade never stops
- There are 2 Port Operations Control Centre (POCC) in Singapore, one in Changi Naval Base and the other in PSA Vista Pasir Panjang
- Our Vessel Traffic Management system has evolved over the years. Back in the 1960s, it was largely a manual process, communicating with ships via flags, lights and flashing ‘Morse Code’. Subsequently, VHF radio equipment was used before moving on to the first generation Vessel Traffic Information System
