It’s bloom time for the Century Plant at @Longwood.Gardens 🌱
Century Plant or Agave Americana is a succulent perennial that blooms once in its life after living 10-25 years.
Its asparagus-like stalk will reach up to 40 feet tall with yellow-green flower clusters at the top.
Nearly all agaves are monocarpic, so after flowering, the plant dies, but the little “pups” that crowd the base will continue to mature so the process happily repeats itself.
