A US woman, whose car was about to get stolen right before her eyes, decided not to surrender without putting up a fight first.
Melissa Smith was filling up her SUV with fuel near downtown Milwaukee, when a man got out of a black car, which had parked next to her vehicle, and revved the engine of her car. Almost instinctively, the lady jumped on the hood of her SUV and clang to the windshield wipers as the man tried to drive away.
Surveillance camera footage of the attempted carjacking shows the would-be thief braking in the parking lot of the gas station as he tried to throw Smith off the hood.
But Smith was unwilling to budge. Eventually, the man gave up, deserting the SUV while the engine was working and rushing to the car from where he had come out.
The car rolled driverless to the street, prompting Smith to chase after it, jumping in and stopping it.
The woman admitted it may not have been the best thing to do, but said it was a gut decision to stop the carjacking.
FBI statistics show that 707,758 motor vehicles were reported stolen in the US in 2015, an increase of 3.1 percent from a year earlier.
