If you’re making your own sourdough starter, you know that it’s always nice to have sourdough discard recipes on hand so that you don’t waste too much of the starter. We wanted to see what delicious creation we could come up with by using our gluten free sourdough starter discard. The results: delicious gluten free focaccia bread. Our focaccia bread recipe uses an easy-to-make and easy-to-maintain gluten free sourdough starter along with our gluten free all purpose bread flour. Make sure you have your other ingredients on hand: sugar, water, egg whites, baking powder, xanthan gum, and active dry yeast.
We topped our gluten free focaccia with flavorful herbs including fresh rosemary, oregano and basil to give an amazing aroma. We also added a hint of olive oil and salt (we love to use sea salt for optimal flavor). Before throwing it in the oven for baking, think about any other additional toppings you may want. We recommend using minced garlic, sliced onion, or even some fresh cherry tomatoes. Once you get the bread out of the oven, the mouthwatering smell of herbs, roasted garlic and caramelized onion will fill the room. Our gluten free sourdough focaccia bread is perfect for sandwich bread, or tagged alongside a bowl of soup or a salad.
