#Seceda is definitely one of the places that #impressed me the most in South Tyrol. Its steep #cliffs and #panoramic views are breathtaking and clearly show the smallness of man to the power of nature. And I #love it, and I tremendously appreciate being part of something bigger than ourselves. Seceda is like that, and it is a place that must be visited in person because the photos do not reflect all the emotions that this place can evoke. I was here in October, which is the end of the season, and I don’t regret it because the Dolomites in fall #time are poetically #beautiful.
#Location of the Seceda in the Dolomites.
Mount Seceda lies within the Puez Odle Natural Park (Naturpark Puez-Geisler) and is one of the many mountains that make up the Odle Group (Geislergruppe or Gruppo delle Odle), rising 2518 meters above sea level above the #towns of Ortisei, St. Christina, and Selva in Val Gardena.
The name “Odle” comes from the Ladin language, which is used, among others, by the people of Val Gardena and means “needles” – and they exactly resemble these peaks. The name Seceda comes from the Latin word siccus, which means “dry,” and it fits just right because this mountain landscape can be extremely harsh (especially outside the #summer season).
The #best time to visit Seceda is September or early October. There are not so many #tourists and the #weather is still stable. The summer season is way too overloaded.
The #hikes season starts at the beginning/middle of June and lasts until the beginning/middle of October.
The #difficulty of the hike through the Seceda
This is an easy and moderate #hike, depending on the trail you choose. The difficulty will obviously depend on how acclimatized you are at higher #altitudes, the weather conditions, and your physical condition.
Technically speaking, the hike is easy. However, it involves climbing and 575 meters and going down. After #rain or #snowfall, the terrain can be very slippery. Unfortunately, I experienced it at the beginning of October. The hiking poles can be helpful.
Seceda is a mountain in the Odle/Geisler Group situated within the Puez-Odle Nature Park in South Tyrol, Italy. The summit of Seceda (2518 meters) is a dearly #loved destination in the Dolomites because of its unbeatable view of the Odle/Geisler #Peaks.
Hiking the Seceda mountain and exploring the nearby town of Ortisei (St. Ulrich) down below was easily the highlight of my road #trip through the Dolomites, Seceda is best known for its #winter slopes, the mountain is a breathtaking #place to hike during the #summer months. With gondola access, the #views are easily accessible to hikers of any fitness #level, with a number of different trail options once you reach the #top.
From the second you step off the gondola on to Seceda mountain, the views are truly spectacular. The rolling green hills and stunning mountain face of the Fermeda #Towers looks almost like a #painting. It is such a fun experience to #visit the ski #resorts when they aren’t covered in #snow.
Seceda is the #perfect #destination for all types of #travelers, with a range of hikes available. Once at the top you can choose between a 25 minutes #walk or a 5 hour hike. It is never a bad #idea to soak up the views with an Aperol Spritz in hand.
Seceda is located in #South Tyrol in the Dolomites region, just above the #village of Ortisei in Val Gardena. Seceda is part of the Dolomites’ Odle mountain range. The Seceda summit station is at an elevation of 2,518 meters, with the #mountain #peaks reaching 8,264 meters.
Seceda is super easy to get to from Ortisei, with a gondola and chairlift taking you to the top of the mountain in under 15 minutes. Begin your journey at the Ortisei-Furnes Gondola station. The #roundtrip ticket for the gondola and chairlift #combo costs 30 Euro round trip per person (as of August 2019). You will find a parking lot directly next to the first lift for those arriving by #car, or you can walk from the center of the #town in under 10 minutes. The #lift only runs from mid-June to early October. For those #traveling in the shoulder season, you can take the Col Raiser Gondola instead.
The #chairlift opens daily at 8:30am, so if you want to be on the mountain for #sunrise you will need to head up the day before and stay at one of the #local #mountain rifugios. While Seceda is #gorgeous at all hours,
