One of the first things you'll be tested on in medical school if you want to be a surgeon is whether you can tie a surgical knot. There is no magic or trick to tying knots, you just have to practice. That's why they are a good early test of interest for medical students, it clearly shows who has been practicing this skill in their own time. In this video I am showing practicing with a shoelace just so you can see the string relative to the finger movements, but if you are practicing on your own you should use thread or actual surgical ties when able.
