The New Kids’ tasteful revival of the #10 hit Delfonics’ from 1970 appeared as a track on their debut album, “New Kids On The Block”. The album reached #25 in the US and #6 in the UK.
In the US, Columbia released “Didn’t I Blow Your Mind This Time” as the b-side of “Hanging Tough” in the summer of 1989. It was a double sided smash for the group; “Hanging Tough” reached 31, while “Didn’t I Blow Your Mind This Time” also reached the Top-10.
In the UK, “Hanging Tough” stalled at #52 first time out but then made it to #1 when reissued in 1990. Later that year UK CBS again put “Didn’t I Blow Your Mind This Time” out as a b-side, this time to “Let’s Try Again”. Both sides reached #8, giving the group 7 Top-10 UK hits in one year.
The group hailed from Boston and were put together by producer, Mauriac Starr, who was also successful with another Boston group, New Edition in the early 80s.
