I stopped in the town of Shumen, Bulgaria, for a few hours to visit the Founders of the Bulgarian State Monument commemorating 1,300 years of the Bulgarian state. It's a really impressive monument overlooking the town with cubist concrete statues that resemble Transformers, and there is a giant golden mosaic wall on the other side. There's really nothing else to do in that town besides walk through a small park on the way back to the bus station from the monument. It's definitely worth stopping to check out if you ever get the opportunity.
