Since organized tours are pretty expensive renting a car is a comparably cheap alternative.

We booked the car at Sunny Rental in El Calafate for:
1250 ARS per day including 200 km per day
700 ARS for the paper work to cross the border to Chile
2 ARS for every additional kilometer

If you combine the Perito Moreno tour with Torres del Paine you end up saving money eventually.

if you plan on camping close to the Glacier, don't camp inside the National Park! There is a bridge just before the Park entrance which suits well for wild camping.
