The Guardian Xtreme is a new member of the family of Guardian 4x4 APC armored personnel carrier vehicles produced and manufactured by the Company IAG (International Armored Group). This is an MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) Vehicle which is available in 4x4 and 6x6 configurations. In September 2017, IAG officially launched the Guardian Xtreme at the DSEI defense exhibition in London, United Kingdom. Defense The Guardian Xtreme was specially designed to perform combat, tactical and surveillance missions and can quickly respond to remote area threats due to its high maneuverability.
The IAG Guardian Xtreme APCs were successfully deployed in support of the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon headed by UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon). The IAG Guardian Xtreme APCs are supporting the operations of MALBATT 850 and were part of a ceremony headed by the Minister of Defense for Malaysia in June 2018.
The layout of the Guardian Xtreme 4x4 and 6x6 MRAP is very similar to the original Guardian with the engine at the front, a driver and commander in the center, and the troop's compartment at the rear. The troop compartment at the rear is fitted with four anti-mine blast seats on each side facing each other. The forward crew cab has a large bulletproof glass windshield. One door is available on each side at the front of the vehicle which has a bulletproof glass window and a firing port. Either side of the troop’s compartment is equipped with four small glass bulletproof windows with gun ports allowing soldiers to use individual weapons from inside of the vehicle under armor protection. All the windows of the vehicle are protected with wire mesh.
The Guardian Xtreme is available in 4x4 and 6x6 configurations with standard STANAG 4569 Level II blast and ballistic protection including the engine bay. It can be upgraded to Level III armor protection including front, sides, rear, and roof. It offers mine protection STANAG 4569 Level 2a and 2b, against blast explosion of 6 kg TNT charge under the wheels and the center of the floor.
The Guardian Xtreme in 4x4 configuration can carry a total of 10 military personnel including a driver and commander, while the 6x6 version has a seating capacity of 12. It can be armored up to STANAG Level III protection using add-on lightweight armor.
The vehicle has a V-hull-shaped floor to provide superior blast protection and a custom-made heavy-duty 12,000 lbs (5,500 kg) front axle to provide additional payload. The Guardian Xtreme 4x4 has a maximum combat weight of 7,983 kg with a maximum payload of 1,088 kg.
