How To Build A Baby Crib Diy
This is part 1 of several videos, showing you how to build a Walnut Baby Crib! The first step is to get all the wood and get it all planed down smooth, I had a lot to do so I didn't Take the time to film it all.
Next I took a couple of 2"x6" (50mm x 100mm)walnut boards and cut them down to 36 inches (914 mm). Now I ripped them down to 3" (76 mm). The reason we are doing this is because we will be gluing two of them together to make each of the corner post 3" x 3" (76mm x 76mm).
Next I marked out the places that I would be putting the screws to hold the two pieces together, we marked them 2 1/2 inches (63.5mm) from the each edge of the board and then evenly spaced them so that we had 4 sets of screws holding the two boards together. Then we marked 3/4 inch (19mm) from the edge on both sides on all the previous marks to make where our screws would go.
We will be drilling these marks with a 3/8 inch (9.5mm) drill bit and we will be making them 3/8 inches (9.5mm) deep. I will be filling these holes with plugs that match the wood so the screws will not show. After you drill all the holes you will then glue and screw the boards together making sure to get them tight enough to close any gaps between the boards.
Next I started cutting down the 1 inch (25mm) boards down to 32 inches (812mm) which is longer than I need, but I cut them long so I could trim them down to the right size in case they didn't line up perfect. The width of these boards were all different, I just put enough boards together to equal at least 32 inches (812mm) so I could trim them down to the proper size when had my design completed.
Now I squared up the boards on one end and made a mark on each of the boards 2 1/2 inches (63mm) on each side and evenly spaced them to where I had 4 marks on each board. I will use these marks to drill holes using our Doweling jig we made in a previous video.

Once we have drilled all the holes as shown in the video, its time to glue the boards together, you will start by putting a little bit of glue on the dowel and hammering it into the first board, next you will put glue on both boards to be glued together and you will line the two boards up and use a wooden mallet to hammer the boards together as shown in the video. Be sure to use clamps to help hold the boards together while they dry to eliminate any gaps in between the boards.
After you let those pieces dry you will need to use a belt sander with 80 grit paper to sand them down smooth. You will sand it down with much finer sand paper later.
