"In the Vaisnavism of Srimanta Sankaradeva, there is the decorated placement of the Bhagavata or the Gunamala of Srimanta Sankaradeva on the altar of God, known as the Guru Asana. The Guru-Asana is a pyramidal, wooden structure with a square base, standing on four pillars adorned by lion-elephant-tortoise motifs. The consecrated altar at the peak of the Asana (literally, 'seat') holds the sacred book. The whole structure is symbolic of ascending spiritual knowledge and accomplishment. This is indeed a unique feature of the religion preached by Srimanta Sankaradeva, and it makes the system original in the true sense of the term".
