Jerry Arizona, a local YouTube hiking legend, has laid down the ultimate Superstition Wilderness challenge, a 3-day loop covering the most iconic landmarks, with some of the most physically challenging trails in Arizona: Siphon Draw to Flat Iron, the Superstition Ridgeline Trail (Superstition Peak!), Robbers Roost, Weavers Needle, Battleship Mountain.

In this video, I am scouting out a section of Jerry's route that includes an unmapped bushwhack from the Carney Springs Trail junction at the end of the Ridgeline Trail to Robbers Roost, which will take you towards the Fremont Saddle and Weavers Needle. The plan is to find a path and mark it well with cairns. From the Peralta Trailhead up to Robbers Roost is around 3 miles. With another mile or so from Robbers Roost to the end of the Ridgeline trail at Carney Springs. Incredible hiking here!
A recent rain has left pools in areas where water normally doesn't exist. How long will they last? Usually just a few days. To ensure water and lighten my future load, I cache 2 gallons near Robbers Roost. Without caching water, I am not certain I would have the strength to carry all the water needed for two full days of the most strenuous hiking available (along with food, shelter, clothing etc). The next water source I know I can rely on is near Battleship Mountain, the LaBarge Pool that collects on the SE side of the mountain. If there is no other water on trail, this will likely be the first place to find water - after 2 full days of difficult and exhausting hiking.
