Case describes patient being readmitted for chest pain 8 hours after placement of bare metal stent, and undergoing a thrombectomy. While intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) revealed stent was well expanded, near-infrared spectroscopy found that the proximal edge of the stent landed in the middle of a large lipid core plaque. Case highlights potential for lipid core plaque disruption increasing risk of thrombus occurring after stenting.
