Manchester United are pushing to complete the signing of OGC Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo, valued at €35m (£29m). INEOS, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, minority shareholder of United, is appealing UEFA's strict regulation on multiple ownership to facilitate the transfer.
Todibo has been a long-term target for Manchester United, and the club is eager to secure his signature. The 24-year-old defender was a standout performer in Ligue 1 last season, contributing to Nice's strong defensive record.
INEOS has taken the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, appointing Swiss lawyer Gianpaolo Monteneri to contest UEFA's regulations that currently hinder the deal due to both clubs' participation in the Europa League.
The outcome of INEOS' bold move to appeal the regulation and get the deal done remains to be seen, as they work to land the highly sought-after French centre-back.
