Barnaby Joyce and the sword of Hypocrisy
Barnaby Joyce is the leader of the National party in Australia. In December 2017 he separated from his wife after 24yrs of marriage which produced four daughters. The reason for his separation… a pregnant mistress.
Having affairs is part and parcel of normal western sexual behaviour with 33% of marriages falling victim, 22% being the man’s fault and 14% of that of the woman. The immorality involved is obvious to almost all given the pain and suffering involved and the effect on any children, and if Christian the breaking of a promise made to God …. a sacred promise whose breakage will inevitable lead to spiritual and other harm that cannot be fully measured.
Barnaby’s pregnant mistress is also a workplace companion, this in itself is common as 36% of affairs are found within the workplace. The mistress had better keep a close eye on her new boy because those who have had an affair also have a 350% increased rate of cheating again. Despite being commonplace, this highly public and publicised affair is important in another way.
Barnaby Joyce fought against same sex marriage and took the moral high ground that marriage between man and woman is sacred. And of course while this is true, Barnaby has dug himself a hole of hypocrisy that he is now unable to extricate himself from. His promises, any statement of moral integrity, any appeal to the conservative base will be forever looked upon with suspicious eyes …. is this a man worthy of honour, of respect and trust. And despite pleas from himself and from other politicians…. the answer will always be no. He is worthy of none of these things. If a man cannot control his base desires then he is unable to trustworthily deal with the affairs of the state.
The beauty found embedded within the great faith of Christianity is that such a man, that while the material effects of his affair will be difficult to mend, the spiritual harm can be repaired with genuine repentance. A repentance that leads to an adulterer being a non-adulterer.
For make no mistake; as it says in Corinthian 6vs 9: Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,[a] nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
Some stop there and claim that no adulterer will ever go to heaven. that of couse is a lie from the devil. Reading one more verse will clarify this
11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
It is only a man or women who continues in their sin without repentence that do not inherit the kingdom of God.
Barnaby Joyce has not only harmed himself with his hypocrisy but as a high profile Roman Catholic who campaigned against same sex marriage he harmed the cause of Christianity because of his sin. His punishment will be doubly painful and one hopes he finds his way back into relationship with his creator if indeed he had one to begin with.
