In this lesson I explain how to comp over standards that remain harmonically static during various sections... I'm referring to those instances where the same chord lasts for 2 measures or more.
In order to add additional motion and variety in these situations, many jazz players re-harmonize those static passages by adding a chord or two. And the magic ingredient to easily accomplish this task is the use of... Secondary Dominants along with their relative IImin chords.
