DescriptionMarburg is a German town north of Frankfurt. It’s home to Philipps University, founded in 1527. The Alstadt, or old town, includes half-timbered houses and the hilltop Landgrafenschloss, a castle with exhibits on sacred art and regional history. Bars and cafes line Marktplatz square and the narrow streets surrounding it. The 13th-century, Gothic-style St. Elizabeth’s Church holds a shrine with the saint’s remains.
