If the mainline is tied directly to the litter, the bowline on a coil captures several structural elements. This is also a good way to attach a tag line to the litter.

In this video, LeRoy Harbach, Senior CMC Rescue School Instructor, shows us how to tie a bowline on a coil. The bowline on a coiled knot works well for attaching tag lines to litters in both horizontal and vertical configurations, as the two loops can self-adjust to equal lengths.
