Friends you all must have enjoyed eating Samosas – the traditional Indian snack. Today we will fold a Samosa Shape from an A-4 size sheet and a sketch pen. First fold the A-4 sheet into half as shown along its length. Mark the fold line with a pen. Place the left corner on the base on the midline and mark the point. Fold the paper from the top along this point. Now make a fold of about 2-cm as shown. Reverse the paper and make two folds on the strip as shown. Reverse the paper again. Fold the lines from the mark on the midline to both corners to make an Equilateral Triangle. Mark both the slant lines of the Triangle with pen. Fold triangles with an angle of 60-degrees as shown. Mark their lines with pen. You will be able to see two Equilateral Triangles.
Fold the model in half as shown. Mark fold with pen. Now fold the small triangle into two equal halves. Fold the other small triangle also into two halves. Mark both Mountain Folds in the Triangles by dotted lines with pen.
Now slowly fold the model into a Tetrahedron or a Samosa. Open the crease in the middle. Tuck the extra flaps inside the Tetrahedron. Now the Samosa model is ready. It is actually a Tetrahedron with a parallel strip on one its edges. All the four surfaces of the Tetrahedron are same and are Equilateral Triangles. This work was supported by IUCAA and Tata Trust.
