A blazing race car gets as hot as 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit, yet trapped drivers walk away nearly unharmed. It’s all thanks to their gear, made, in part, from the same material used by firefighters and military pilots. It’s a tedious assembly process, but saves drivers from fires that could’ve killed them 40 years ago.
