CINCINNATI (WKRC) - As you head out to fireworks festivities, you might want to keep a close eye on your pets.
The noise around on Fourth of July night and maybe in the days to come might not be a welcome sound for everyone. Prevent Blindness Ohio has some information they want all of us to know about what you might consider a simple set off.
David Monder of Prevent Blindness Ohio said injuries, especially to eyes, don't just happen to those setting them off; they can happen to innocent bystanders too. He suggests we leave fireworks to the professionals.
But also he says, when it comes to the noise we hear from fireworks, professional or not, please remember there are some others to consider: Pets and those with PTSD.
Ohio is home to roughly 100,000 veterans who live with PTSD, and unexpected and unwelcome explosions from fireworks could be problematic to them. It can also be traumatic to dogs. Many run away from home and end up in animal shelters.
