Take a quick look at this historic Land Rover Fire Truck still in use by the NSW Rural Fire Service.
Paul Anley explains the history behind this Historic vehicle:
This is a 1958 Land Rover Series two. It was originally built as one of three built for the NSW Fire Brigade. They were designed as support pumpers for large country towns to support the main fire engine in that town. A few months later it was decided that the Land Rovers wern't viable and they were all put up for sale.
This one was purchased later by Annangrove Bush Fire Brigade... I believe they paid eight hundred dollars for it. It's still in service with the Baulkham Hills Rural fire service but not at Annangrove
It's a spare vehicle used for support roles if necessary... parades, promotions or whatever.
It's only done nineteen and a half thousand miles although the pump on the back has done a great many more miles than that. It's currently got a one eight six holden engine. The reason it's got a Holden engine is because when she's fully loaded she weighed two point three five seven tonnes which is an awful lot of weight to ask a little Land Rover to drag, particularly on a cold morning.
It's very historic. The other two vehicles still exist of the three, one is up at Raymond Terrace... it's currently being rebuilt and the third one is up around the Musswelbrook area, privately owned.
