There's plenty of different styles of Death Metal that even come with different attitudes. For the scholarly 4.0 GPA Good Will Hunting Math types, you have Technical Death Metal (or Angry Jazz). For the homebodies who live by candlelight, there's the cavernous more Death-Doom bands. Those of you with an Adderall prescription might appreciate Deathgrind, fans with a lower I.Q. might like the caveman stuff, others who might be on the soft side prefer sticking to Melodic Death Metal, and so on. There are some Death Metal bands who could be described as the life of the party and encourage their audience to go ape shit, as if they were bringing the lyrics to Exodus' "Toxic Waltz" to life. Undeath from Rochester, New York is that kind of Death Metal band.

This is my third time seeing Undeath live, having previously seen them with 200 Stab Wounds, Enforced, and Phobophilic on tour together last year (videos from that show are on this channel if you're interested). Their set at Decibel Fest was just as exciting as when I saw them two nights in a row at Saint Vitus, but Philly felt more like a massive block party with the sheer amount of heshers gone wild. As I've said before, their native Upstate New York has a long and rich history in regards to underground music, with an emphasis on Metal, Punk, and Hardcore.

The members of Undeath have an appreciation for all of it and then some, which is part of what makes their dynamic so strong. It's an interesting take on Death Metal played with a wide variety of influences and the urgency of a Punk/Hardcore band. Whether it's at a humongous festival with at least a thousand heads or at a skatepark in the suburbs, Undeath always goes big.

Support the hell out of this sick band and as well as their other current projects.
