Just ONE way of doing something and certainly Not the only way.
The original plywood mount was overgrown and would only cause problems with the next shield that it would produce. A couple pallets provided us with all the backing boards that we needed.
Fred has gone home a happy boy with his baby able to grow on for another few years.

...ps... fumbling trying to thread the line and difficulty tying it off. There are better ways that I could have done it and I just didn't think it through properly. Oh well... still fairly good and the end result was worth it.
I 'should' have mentioned that the panty hose is temporary and needs to be moved lower as the new shield frond grows. It can be cut away before the shield frond grows over it as by then, the attaching roots will have grown and the hidden fishing line is all that's needed to secure it.
