Editing / Filming Notes:
My wife and I were able to attend 5 of the 8 shows on this tour. We still had the next night in San Fran, and two nights in Seattle to go, so I felt comfortable filming the entire concert, and not losing out on the experience. We had camped out and were first in line. We were against the rail in between Jeff and Chris. The stage was rather high, and I had security a few feet in either direction from me. In order to not flagrantly hold the camera up and to steady my arms, I used the rail to balance my forearms. Unfortunately by keeping the camera low and using the rail like this, it was extremely difficult for me to see the screen of the camera, do to the upward angle. This is why you see the bottom of the stage often on my angle, and heads of the security. I could not feel confident in zooming as much as I would have liked. Ryan's 2nd row angle compliments mine well, though he had many obstructions, I was able to edit them out, and only use the footage where it is clean. He zooms in often, and he has many amazing close ups that are brilliant. The result is hopefully clean and an unobstructed view of the action. Jeff's (Stone side) angle is great, as it is steady and gives us the contrast we need to move away from these other two angles, and is great during shots of drum fills and up tempo areas.. The distant shot that was provided by Steve Hagar was not shot in the highest bit rate, and was a little grainy and filmed from far away, but when there was very good light saturation it was awesome to see the light show and it was steady on a tri-pod.
These shows have been a dream come true for my wife and I. We listened to this CD every night to go to sleep for the first 10 years we were together. If we were still awake by the end of Reach Down it was a rare occasion! After 23 years together we enjoyed watching these moments together more than I could ever had imagined. Tears were shed from the first note of the first show to the last note of Seattle 2! it was everything I had hoped it would be!
I hope you all enjoy!
Steve
