July 2019. Wildfires have consumed nearly 2 million acres in Alaska, so far this summer. The National Interagency Fire Center reports about 40 large wildfires are still burning across the state, with new blazes igniting every day.
The sky turned orange and the air filled with smoke as wildfires raged near Rampart, Alaska. The video, filmed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Alaska Fire Service the week of July 18 to 25, shows smoke from central Alaska wildfires engulfing the city of Fairbanks with some of the world's worst air pollution in recent days,. Many residents stayed indoors and one hospital to set up a 'clean air shelter.'
BLM added the freeze frame and red circles to the video to help you see the firefighters, one with a hand tool and one with a hose, who put the spotfire out.
