(31 Oct 2017) The son and widow of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar are being investigated in Argentina as part of a large money laundering ring.
Maria Victoria Henao and Pablo Escobar Jr. were named on Monday by Argentine security minister Patricia Bullrich as part of the ongoing investigation that includes Argentine, Colombian and US security and investigation services.
The pair are suspected of being the link in Argentina for a suspected Colombian drug dealer, Jose Piedrahita, to launder money through real estate and a prominent Buenos Aires cafe.
Piedrahita was arrested last month in Colombia and is wanted for extradition to the US.
The Department of Justice says he also bribed a federal agent with cash and prostitution to get his name removed from a cocaine-smuggling case.
Maria Victoria Henao and Pablo Escobar Jr. have lived in Argentina for over 20 years.
They fled Colombia in 1994, a year after their late husband and father, Pablo Escobar was killed.
Pablo Escobar led the world's leading cocaine cartel in 1980's.
Argentine authorities say they are now in the process of opening a criminal trial.
