Many autistic people have mind blindness. Little kids normally develop a theory of mind, which makes them able to distinguish their thoughts, knowledge and opinions from other people. Autistic kids often develop this theory of mind a lot later, or not at all, so many autistic kids and adults find it very difficult to 'put themselves in someone else's shoes'.
