Most flash drives broke in half, can be rebuilt and brought back to life as long as critical components are not damaged. In this specific case, a flash drive broke after the controller but before the NAND, rendering the original PCB practically useless. Although the data could be recovered as chip-off directly from the NAND with specialized tools, our client had supplied us with a donor device. The donor device had a small problem, that was quickly dealt with and we got on our way to recover data from patient. Even if your flash drive is broken in half consult with a recovery specialist, the recovery of data may still be very much possible.
